Woori America Bank, the US subsidiary of Woori Bank, announced on the 20th that it held an opening ceremony for its Austin, Texas, branch on the 19th (local time). Woori America Bank previously opened its first Korean-owned bank branch in Austin, Texas, in August to actively support Korean companies and their employees entering the US market. The opening ceremony was attended by approximately 60 key figures, including Woori Bank Global Group Head Ryu Hyung-jin, Woori America Bank President Lee Tae-hoon, Austin Korean Association President Lee Ok-hee, Austin Asian Chamber of Commerce CEO Mark Duval, and Williamson County Economic Development Authority President Dave Porter, along with representatives from local companies and local businesses.
Austin, Texas, is emerging as a hub for the IT and tech industry, with major global companies such as Tesla, Oracle, and Apple, as well as Korean companies like Samsung Electronics, actively expanding into the region. Woori America Bank recognized the growth potential of the southern US region early on , opening a loan office ( LPO) in Houston in 2004 and a loan office in Dallas in 2018. Since then, the Dallas office was upgraded to a branch in 2020 and the Duluth, Georgia branch was opened in 2022, continuing to expand its sales network in the United States. A Woori Bank official said, "Woori America Bank is the only Korean bank to offer differentiated services, such as opening payroll accounts for employees of terrestrial branches, issuing credit cards, providing home mortgage services, and even corporate firm banking services." They added, "We will do our best to ensure the stable settlement of Korean companies entering the region and to meet the financial needs of local customers." Meanwhile, Woori America Bank, which first entered the United States in 1984, has expanded its operations from the eastern region, including New York and New Jersey, to major regions such as California, Georgia, and Texas, and currently operates a total of 26 networks, including 22 branches and 4 loan offices ( LPOs ).
